Criminal Investigations Division

Mission 

The Criminal Investigations Division, led by Chief Kyla Baxley, reports directly to District Attorney Stacey Eads. This division’s primary goal is to support prosecutors in the District Attorney’s Office with professional investigative services. All investigators in this division are experienced law enforcement officers.

Services 

The division staff investigate serious and sensitive matters referred by local law enforcement agencies. Their primary duties include:

• Conducting civil and criminal investigations
• Investigating insurance fraud for Humboldt, Del Norte, and Trinity Counties, including auto insurance, Disability/Healthcare Insurance, and Workers' Compensation Fraud.
• Preparing and executing search and arrest warrants
• Investigating Elder Abuse cases
• Locating, interviewing, and serving witnesses with subpoenas
• Processing evidence
• Assisting local law enforcement agencies in major cases
