SolarAPP+ Support Resources
Introducing SolarAPP+
The Humboldt County Building Department is introducing a new, optional method for solar contractors to apply for eligible residential rooftop solar system permits. This method speeds up permit issuance by utilizing SolarAPP+ software for checking if the plans comply with current building codes. After getting plans approved on the SolarAPP website, contractors can then quickly submit a building permit application via our Accela permit management system.
SolarAPP+ is set up to quickly verify if most residential, roof-mounted, solar panel installations meet code requirements. To find out which systems qualify, check the eligibility criteria on our Apply for a Building Permit page. Only projects meeting these checklist criteria can use the SolarAPP+ portal for instant permitting. The process involves a $25 fee for using SolarAPP+, in addition to the standard county building permit fees.

SolarAPP+ allows up to 3 revisions under the $25.00 fee. They must resubmit the application to SolarAPP+ and once the resubmittal is approved, they will receive a modified approval number, for example:
- Original SolarAPP+ ID: SA20230117-242-19-1234-A
- First Approved Revision SolarAPP+ ID: SA20230117-242-19-1234-B
- Second Approved Revision SolarAPP+ ID: SA20230117-242-19-1234-C
- Third and Last Approved Revision SolarAPP+ ID: SA20230117-242-19-1234-D
Once the contractor receives the new SolarAPP+ ID, they can upload this new document to the existing Accela permit record. The County may charge any fees that are appropriate for the resubmittal.
The contractor will need to apply for a separate fast-track permit.
