May 30, 2024 - Photo Voice shares youth perspectives on alcohol and other drugs

Health & Human Services Posted on May 30, 2024

Students from South Fork High School’s Graphic Arts class and the Osprey Learning Center are sharing a Photo Voice Exhibit detailing issues young people face in rural communities at this year’s Summer Arts and Music Festival.

The collection of posters was produced collaboratively with the Humboldt County Department of Health & Human Services Public Health Substance Use Prevention Program, Southern Humboldt Joint Unified School District and Southern Humboldt Family Resource Center.

The exhibit’s focus looks at the changing landscape of the Southern Humboldt community and support needed from the county and has a central theme of “concern and care for the community.” Posters have been translated into Spanish by Public Health’s Translator-Interpreter.

Community members can visit the Photo Voice Exhibit at the Mateel Community Center Saturday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Access to the exhibit is included with Summer Arts and Music Festival tickets and is for all ages.
