Feb. 28, 2024 - Extreme weather expected, warming centers scheduled to open

Health & Human Services Posted on February 28, 2024

With extreme weather expected over the next few days, Arcata House Partnership (AHP) is planning to open its overnight emergency weather center Thursday, Feb. 29. Depending on how the storm progresses, AHP may stay open through the weekend.

Check in will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. at the AHP Annex, 501 Ninth St. in Arcata.

In Eureka, staff are monitoring the weather and contacting volunteers so they too will be ready to open a warming center if needed, and in Southern Humboldt, plans to open Saturday morning are underway.

To find out which warming centers are open for day and night use, call 2-1-1 or visit 211humboldt.org. 2-1-1 Humboldt staff answer calls 24 hours a day, seven days a week and can provide information about local programs and resources.

Please note, the need continues for volunteers to assist with the opening and running of various warming centers. Fill out this survey to sign up: surveymonkey.com/r/JGLLV8G.
