The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) today announced it was rescinding the Hospital Surge Order due to improving conditions at hospitals statewide.
The state enacted the Hospital Surge Order Jan. 5 to “address an urgent statewide crisis in ICU capacity,” according to a news release issued today. The Order required hospitals to delay some elective surgeries and to accept patients from other counties if intensive care unit capacity in those jurisdictions dropped below 15%.
CDPH said current data shows declining cases, hospitalizations, test positivity and transmission rates, which indicated the surge “has abated sufficiently for hospitals to resume elective surgeries and other conventional standards of care.”
