Regular Meetings

All meetings of the Forestry Review Committee (FRC) are open to the public. Any person is allowed to make public comment regarding the business of the committee. FRC meetings are subject to reasonable restrictions by the committee Chair as to order of presentation, length of time and subject matter.

Meetings are held at the Humboldt County Planning & Building Department located at 3015 H St. in Eureka.

Committee Appointments

The committee consists of 11 members, with nine members serving as voting members. Of the nine voting members on this committee, five are appointed individually by each Board member and four at-large members are appointed by a majority of the Board. Appointees are not required to reside in the district of the Board member making the appointment, but all appointees must reside within Humboldt County. 

All voting members must be Registered Professional Foresters in good standing and working in Humboldt County. A registered professional forester in good standing is an individual who holds a current license issued by the Board of Forestry and who does not have a currently outstanding licensing action issued by the Board of Forestry.

Voting members serve staggered terms. Members serve four years which shall expire on June 30 of the fourth year after appointment. At-large committee voting members shall serve at the pleasure of the Board of Supervisors. Voting members appointed by an individual Supervisor shall serve at the pleasure of the appointing Supervisor. The voting members shall designate a Chair and a Vice-Chair from the voting members.

The Director of the Planning & Building Department, or their designee, and the Assessor, or their designee, serve as  ex-officio non-voting members who act as liaison for communication between the committee, the Planning Commission and the Board of Supervisors.

History 

The Forestry Review Committee was originally established in 1952 by Ordinance No. 1711 of the Humboldt County Board of Supervisors. The committee reviews technical forest-related matters of concern to Humboldt County and makes recommendations to the Board of Supervisors and Planning Commission.
